Vijay Eswaran is a Malaysian entrepreneur who founded QI Group of Companies twenty years ago. He services as this multinational firm’s chairman of the board. His company sells products and services through a network of independent contractors. His educational background includes earning an MBA at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

He is also a philanthropist. Vijay Eswaran has established a number of nonprofits with one of them being the RYTHM Foundation which he established in Kuala Lumpur in 2005. This is an educational nonprofit with a focus on providing educational opportunities to girls in this city. His nonprofit also helps children with special needs and engages in community development. In 2011 Forbes Asia named him as one of their Heroes of Philanthropy and the Asian Strategic Leadership Institute gave him a lifetime achievement award for his philanthropical efforts.

When he started QI Group, Vijay Eswaran says that it started out pretty rough. He didn’t have a source of funds to rely upon and no business connections either. He says that he was the only one who believed in what he was trying to accomplish. He knew he didn’t want to waste his life working for others and once he found some like-minded partners his firm started to gradually take off. He says that even today he and his company still experience setbacks but he has learned how to power through them and continue to achieve success.

When asked to talk about his style of leadership, Vijay Eswaran says that he learned it from his father. His approach is “Service above self” and it’s what he teaches his management team. He says that QI Group is a global company but he tries to operate it with the soul of a small business. He wants to remain humble and never forget where he came from in life.
